Street Cleaner Finds £10,000 In Cut-Up Banknotes

Graham Hill, 43, found a carrier bag full of cut-up £10 and £20 notes while he was emptying litter bins in the town centre in Lincoln, England.
Graham handed the carrier bag full of cash to the police, but after a six-month investigation the police were unable to link the cash to any crime, so they have now handed the money back to him

The Bank of England says it will give Graham Hill a new note in exchange for each one of the cut-up bank notes he can piece back together.
The Bank of England said the notes serial numbers and other elements also have to match.

Shortly after finding the money, Grahm Hill said, “I was gutted when I looked in there and saw it all cut up.”
Graham has not commented on how he is getting on with his puzzle of piecing the bank notes back together.

Shortly after Graham Hill found the money in a bin in Lincoln’s Central Market, a second bundle of cash was found by the Barge restaurant a short distance away.
The carrier bags are thought to have been dumped between early evening on 7 May 2008, and late morning on 8 May 2008.
The exact total of the cash is unknown but it has been estimated at £10,000.

A spokesman for the Bank of England confirmed the institution would reimburse the cash if each note had two matching serial numbers and the cashier’s signature.
money The spokesman said that many factors are taken into account when deciding whether to pay out for damaged notes, “In particular, we look at the two serial numbers on the front of notes.

“We ask that people tell us how the note came to be damaged as well. We’re more reluctant to pay out if someone said they set fire to it.
“From what I understand of Mr Hill’s case, he should be fine to get a reimbursement on the notes that he can put together.”
